RECYCLING And REPLANTING

🌱 From Tea Cups to Trees: How We Turned Waste into a Nursery Most of us enjoy a cup of tea at a local shop, but rarely do we stop to think about what happens to the cups once we’re done. More often than not, they’re tossed away, adding to the growing pile of waste. But what if those same cups could grow into something much more meaningful? 🍡➡🌳 At Mrittika Harvest, we decided to rethink this “waste.” Instead of throwing away used paper cups, we collected them and gave them a second life—as tiny planters. 🌿✨ 🌍 Why We Chose This Path? Every small action matters in building a sustainable future. By reusing discarded cups, we: ♻ Reduced waste headed to landfills 🌱Created low-cost planters for seedlings 🌳 Grew crops, trees, and greenery for our community What started as a simple experiment soon grew into something much larger—our very own nursery. Each seedling in these recycled cups is a reminder that sustainability doesn’t always require big investments. Sometimes, it’s about lookin...

BAMBOO: The Green Gold of Nature

Image
🌿 Bamboo: The Green Gold of Nature Bamboo is not just another plant—it is a lifeline for people, ecosystems, and the planet. From providing oxygen to sustaining livelihoods, bamboo truly deserves the title of “Green Gold.” 🌱 Why Bamboo Matters? A Natural Oxygen Factory A single healthy bamboo plant can release 250–300 liters of oxygen per day, making it one of the most efficient oxygen producers in the plant kingdom. A Climate Warrior Bamboo plantations absorb up to 12 tons of carbon dioxide per hectare annually, making them a powerful ally in the fight against climate change. Biodiversity Hotspot in India India is home to over 136 species of bamboo, with the North-East region holding nearly two-thirds of this diversity. This makes it a treasure trove for ecological and economic growth. The People’s Timber Known as the “Poor Man’s Timber”, bamboo is widely used in rural housing, handicrafts, paper production, and even as a sustainable alternative to plastic. Its strength and versatil...

AGROFORESTRY: THE FUTURE OF CLIMATE-SMART FARMING

🌱 Agroforestry: The Future of Climate-Smart Farming Agroforestry is emerging as one of the most powerful solutions to balance food production, environmental protection, and climate change mitigation. Unlike conventional farming, agroforestry combines trees, crops, and sometimes livestock on the same land, creating resilient ecosystems that benefit both farmers and the planet.πŸ€ 🌳 What is Agroforestry? Agroforestry is a land-use system where farmers intentionally integrate trees or shrubs with crops and/or animals. This practice is not new—many traditional farming communities in India, Africa, and Latin America have been using agroforestry for centuries. Today, it is gaining global recognition as a nature-based climate solution.πŸƒ Common agroforestry practices include:   • Alley Cropping – Growing crops between rows of trees. • Silvopasture – Combining trees with livestock grazing. • Forest Farming – Growing medicinal plants, spices, or mushrooms under  ...
