🎥 From Field to Future: A Day in the Life of Black Rice Farming 🌾

Published by Mrittika Harvest | 2025

🌱 "This isn’t just farming—it’s a revolution sprouting from the soil."

We recently traveled across the fertile belts of Assam and West Bengal—from Golaghat and Dhemaji to Nadia and Bankura—to witness a movement quietly reshaping rural India: Black Rice Farming.

In this video, we captured not just a crop cycle, but a story of resilience, sustainability, and empowerment.

🔍 What Makes Black Rice So Special?

Black Rice, often called the “forbidden rice”, is a dark, antioxidant-rich grain known for its deep nutritional value and cultural significance. But for farmers here, it's more than food—it’s a source of identity and livelihood.

💡 Why Are Farmers Choosing Black Rice?

✔️ Grown organically – minimum chemical use

✔️ 2–3x better market prices than white rice

✔️ Low water requirement – perfect for changing climates

✔️ Boosts soil biodiversity and long-term fertility

✔️ Offers export potential and niche markets

👩‍🌾 Empowering Rural Women & Small Farmers

Across the districts we visited, we saw how Self-Help Groups (SHGs) — especially women-led collectives — are cultivating Black Rice as a tool for income generation, community collaboration, and ecological stewardship.

Their smiles during harvest spoke louder than words.

🌏 A Grain That Balances Ecology and Economy

In a time when agriculture is struggling to keep pace with climate and market changes, Black Rice offers a rare balance:

✅ It is good for the soil.

✅ It is good for the farmer.

✅ It is good for you.

🙌 Support the Purple Revolution

Every time you choose to buy or promote Black Rice, you help a farmer reclaim their soil, their tradition, and their future.
