🌍 International Year of Cooperatives 2025 – Cooperatives Build a Better World



The United Nations has declared 2025 as the International Year of Cooperatives (IYC 2025), celebrating the power of cooperation in shaping a sustainable, inclusive, and equitable future.

This is the second time cooperatives are being recognized globally (the first was in 2012). The theme for 2025 is:

✨ “Cooperatives Build a Better World” ✨

Why Cooperatives?

Cooperatives are more than just businesses—they are communities built on trust, equality, and shared prosperity. From agriculture and food security to renewable energy, finance, and housing, cooperatives play a key role in:

✅ Promoting social inclusion and equality
✅ Advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

  • Soft Launch: July 2024, UN Headquarters, New York

  • Official Launch: November 2024, New Delhi, India – with representatives from 100+ countries.

  • New Delhi Action Agenda: A global call for governments, cooperatives, and civil society to work together for a resilient future.
